Post COVID-19

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world as we knew it and caused a myriad of harmful, long-term effects in thousands of people, severely affecting their well-being and daily functioning. These effects can persist long after the acute infection has subsided.

When we think of the impacts of COVID-19, we tend to think of the physical symptoms of the disease. However, the mental and psychological symptoms can be just as overwhelming: the anxiety that comes with lost employment, the depression following the illness or loss of a loved one, the negative emotional impacts of weeks of isolation, and the general uncertainty about our futures.

The Post-Pandemic Program at GIA Miami

Researchers are only just beginning to explore the adverse effects on the brain and mental wellness that have come with this pandemic, and we are proud to say that GIA’s team is at the forefront of this research. We have discovered that as this public health crisis has continued, many people have reported severe effects on their mental abilities, such as:

  1. ● Decreased concentration and mental focus.
  2. ● Difficulty maintaining attention.
  3. ● Memory impairment.
  4. ● Increased fatigue.
  5. ● Insomnia.
  6. ● Anxiety.
  7. ● Panic attacks.
  8. ● Depression.
  9. ● Anhedonia and low motivation.
  10. ● Increased stress, excessive worrying, and fear.
  11. ● Agitation, restlessness, and irritability.

Additionally, as a result of the above, people are increasingly turning to drugs and alcohol.

If you are experiencing any of the above, the COVID-19 recovery program at GIA is here to offer guidance, support, and treatment.

What Happens in Post-Pandemic Treatment?

To cope with the COVID-19 psychological symptoms, we offer a full complement of psychotherapeutic approaches:

The most commonly used psychotherapeutic approach, cognitive-behavioral therapy is an evidence-based approach that can help you change your thoughts and behavior patterns while helping you build healthy coping skills.

  2. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)

DBT uses some principles that are similar to those of CBT but provides a more in-depth focus on regulating your emotions, working through adversity and difficult moments, and overall mindfulness.

  3. Group therapy sessions

Group therapy at GIA lets you find perspective in the presence of peers and build a network of support.

  4. Family therapy

Rebuild relationships with family members through therapist-led sessions.

  5. Addiction-specific therapy

The addiction specialists at GIA address addiction to different substances or activities in different ways. We currently have addiction-specific treatment plans that address cocaine addiction, opiate addiction, alcohol addiction, nicotine addiction, and gambling addiction, among others.

Mental Performance

“The mind is just like a muscle—the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets and the more it can expand.” Idowu Koyenikan, AUTHOR.

There are over 1.000 quotes about the unlimited power of your mind, but only one Mental Performance training program that can boost your brain like a HIIT session boosts your cardio: the GIA Miami “Mental Performance Package”.

Why is GIA’s Mental Performance Package more effective than other programs?

  1. 1. It analyzes each individual from a personalized perspective with extensive brain imaging, blood work and cognitive testing.
  2. 2. Gives the patient a comprehensive plan to maximize their brain function with a personalized treatment plan, combined with GIA’s vast knowledge about Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

TMS is being used by professional athletes and top executives exposed to high pressure levels and exceptionally demanding goals, to guarantee they are 100% focused and on top of their game.

What is TMS and how does it work to stimulate your brain?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is the latest treatment in improving cognitive and psychological processes. This technique has been used for decades with proven results in treating mood and behavioral disorders, as well as addictions, and has now been successfully adapted to maximize mental performance.

TMS is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation. A magnetic coil is placed on the patient’s scalp, creating a magnetic field. The coil is then targeted to stimulate groups of cells in the frontal areas of the brain. The small electromagnetic pulses are painless, the procedure itself is non-invasive, and stimulation sessions usually last no more than 15 minutes.

Importantly, TMS can generally be administered without patients having to reduce or interrupt the medications that they are taking.

TMS benefits on your mental performance:

  1. ● Increase of cortical excitability producing cognitive performance enhancement.
  2. ● Improvement in speed and accuracy in a variety of tasks involving perceptual, motor, and executive processing.
  3. ● Faster learning.
  4. ● Decrease in fatigue.
  5. ● Reduces insomnia and sleeping difficulties: studies show that there is a corresponding improvement in sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep onset latency, and wake times.

Importantly, TMS can generally be administered without patients having to reduce or interrupt the medications that they are taking.

If you want to boost your brain, improve your sleep, increase your efficiency, reach higher success levels, and develop your mind’s potential,

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition that affects approximately 4% of U.S adults, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. However, most people suffering from PTSD avoid seeking medical treatment, and choose to ignore the issue, self-medicate or develop addictive behaviors instead. None of those choices will provide an effective and long-term solution for this condition.

GIA Miami offers a PTSD therapy that is comprehensive, innovative, and designed to provide the best possible outcome.

Are you suffering from PTSD?

PTSD is a type of mental health disorder, related with traumatic memories from past experiences, that the brain has trouble processing.

As a defense mechanism, the brain blocks conscious access to the memories of a terrifying event, however, they may rise as flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, provoked by stimuli that trigger the memory (a smell, a sound, a place, a person…).

In some cases people are unable to revisit the memories and understand what is happening, while in other cases, they may experience uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

This type of trauma can occur for many reasons:

  1. ● The death of a loved one.
  2. ● Witnessing or experiencing domestic violence.
  3. ● Sexual abuse.
  4. ● Emotional abuse.
  5. ● Wartime experiences.

What Can You Expect in PTSD Therapy?

PTSD therapy will set you free from reliving a traumatic experience in any way, breaking the connection between the stimuli and the experience, and managing the negative impact those memories have on your life and actions.

At GIA Miami, therapy is always tailored to each individual’s circumstance, thus it is never the same.

Your PTSD therapy may include evidence-based treatments such as:

  1. ● Cognitive-behavioral therapy.
  2. ● Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy .
  3. ● EMDR therapy.
  4. ● Dialectical behavior therapy.
  5. ● Individual counseling.

During your treatment, you will work closely with your counselor to talk about your condition. In some cases, patients do not remember the specific event that has caused their condition. In others, patients know exactly what happened but haven’t dealt with it. At GIA we also provide PTSD therapy combined with any addiction treatments you may need.
